This past weekend, 14 WildFire athletes took the floor at The Desert City Classic — Arizona’s largest CrossFit competition.
Three days. Six workouts. Hundreds of competitors.
And WildFire showed up stronger than ever.
We had five individuals and three teams competing — all of whom earned their spots through online qualifiers this summer. The weekend was packed with strength, grit, and plenty of WildFire pride.
Our competitors:
- Coach Ashley Selby – RX Female Division – 5th place overall
- Kim Peterson – RX Female Division – 23rd place
- Nicole James – RX Female Division – 26th place
- Seth Hernandez – Intermediate Male Division – 21st place
- Heather Danke – Masters 35–39 Female Division – 7th place
- Team Not Fast, Just Furious: Coach Jesse, T, and Coach Tiff D – Intermediate Female Team – 7th place
- Team Golden Girls: Amy, Jen, and Shauna – Intermediate Female Team – 19th place
- Team 3 Peas in a WOD: Rylee, Cassidy, and June – Community Division – 6th place
Every athlete had a moment where they:
- Overcame something they’d been working on
- Crushed a personal record
- Pushed beyond their comfort zone
- Found a new level of mental toughness and physical fitness
Why We Compete
A lot of people ask, “Why compete?”
It’s not about medals or rankings. (I mean it is fun to work for these and to be on that podium and yet it's about so much more)
It’s about asking yourself a powerful question:
Can I put myself in an uncomfortable situation and come out better on the other side?
And the answer, every single time, is yes.
Competition reveals who we are, and who we can become.
When we step onto that floor, it’s not to prove that we’re better than someone else.
It’s to discover how much more we’re capable of than we ever realized.
It forces you to face ourselves, the fear, the nerves, the doubts, and still choose to show up anyway.
You learn to trust your training, your teammates, and your own resilience.
And when you cross that finish line, you walk away with something far greater than a score, you walk away with belief.
Belief that you can do hard things.
Belief that you can face challenge and rise above it.
Belief that your limits are just the starting line for something greater.
That’s what competition gives us.
It sharpens our focus, strengthens our resolve, and connects us more deeply as a community.
Because when we push ourselves, we inspire others to do the same.
The WildFire Community
What made this weekend even more incredible was the WildFire family that came out to support.
Dozens of members filled the stands, cheering at the top of their lungs, and bringing that unmistakable WildFire energy to every heat.
Even if you weren’t physically there, we felt you in every cheer, every message, every ounce of encouragement.
Because at WildFire, whether you’re competing, coaching, or taking class, you’re part of the same FIRE.
This experience strengthened us not just as athletes, but as a community.
It gives us more focus in training, more connection in class, and more pride in what we’re building together.
This weekend reminded us exactly who we are at WildFire CrossFit:
A group of people who show up.
Who work hard.
Who cheer each other on.
Who believe in becoming better, inside and outside the gym.
We are WildFire.
