What is CrossFit and Why do we do it?

Welcome to the heart and soul of our CrossFit community! Whether you're a seasoned CrossFitter or considering joining the ranks, this blog post is here to shed light on what makes CrossFit more than just a workout – it's a lifestyle that transforms bodies and builds a supportive community like no other.

Just recently one of our newer members Julie had this to say: "Just do it, you will not regret your decision. I am stronger, more confident and absolutely certain I will achieve my goals!"

Julie has been with us since the begining of October. As someone in her 60s she was concerned initially that she wouldn't fit in or be supported in her journey to be as functional and strong as possible as she continues to age (aka....level up).

She started with our 30 day On Ramp program which begins with 5 sessions one on one with a coach for an hour and then moves you into our classes. After 30 days she had dropped 2% in body fat and gained 2lbs of muscle.

I share with you Julie's story to help you understand what CrossFit is and WHY we do it.

The punchline:  What is CrossFit: A fitness program that get results, keeps us functional & getting stronger. WHY do we do it: To get results (lose body fat, build muscle, pick up our kids & grandkids, be independent as long as possible, feel capable and confident.....etc), the community support and so we don't get bored.

One of my favorite quotes from Greg Glassman the founder of CrossFit is that the needs of an Olympic Athlete and your grandmother do not differ by type only by degree." So while the Olympic Athlete may need to squat hundred of pounds my grandma may just need to squat to the toilet or get in and out of a chair on her own.....both need to perform a squat...just to different degrees and intensities.
